How to choose a practitioner
Whether you find a clinic here or elsewhere, the same checks apply.
- Verify registration on the Ahpra register Every acupuncturist in Australia must be registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia. The public register is free and takes under a minute to search.
- Ask about cosmetic acupuncture training specifically Registration establishes competence in acupuncture broadly. Cosmetic work is generally a post-qualification area of focus, so ask about additional training and clinical experience.
- Expect a thorough consultation A first appointment should include a substantial conversation about your skin, sleep, energy, digestion, stress and health history before any needling takes place.
- Check what a session includes and what a course costs Ask what is standard versus additional, how long appointments run, how a course would be structured, and the total cost including follow-ups.
- Notice how expectations are discussed Look for honest talk of gradual, cumulative change. Registered practitioners must not use testimonials, guarantee outcomes or claim superiority over other treatments.
